Chokolat Creme Rosa Parks mug shot tee c/o, Forever 21 Faux Leather moto jacket, Levi’s jeans, Zara booties, Vintage hat
Wearing this shirt couldn’t have come at a better time. There are so many reasons why I feel proud to represent the lady on my shirt, Ms. Rosa Parks. Besides it being stylish (my mom asked me about 3 times “where did you get that shirt again?)”, it has a powerful meaning behind it and here’s why. Blacks, African-Americans, minorities (whatever you want to call it) has had centuries of systematic racism, cruelty, and numerous unjust acts placed on us. I write this with a heavy heart truthfully – because after seeing Selma and concurrently witnessing these recent heinous acts of police brutality, I am proud to represent the movement we are still fighting for. In this post, I am specifically talking about the women in movement like Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Michelle Obama and a slew of others. I tend to be slightly removed sometimes from the daily struggles minorities are facing because of my own personal problems, but sometimes you really have to stop and pay attention to who’s causing this, how to stop it, and what you can do to make things better. So wearing this mug shot shirt with Rosa Parks from her arrest after the 1956 Montgomery bus boycotts is a reminder of how are ancestors fought for our freedom and how strong and willful we need to be again and forever as a people. I usually don’t speak on social awareness issues on here, but it’s certainly necessary since I feel I have a voice on this here internet. You have to start somewhere, right?
Also, I want to thank Chokolat Creme for allowing me to showcase this cute tee right before Black History Month. Check out their site here.
