High Waisted Style Inspo: Barbara Martelo

Effortless, Pizazz, Chic, Sexy, and Spanish Fly are just a few words that come to mind when I think about fashion stylist Barbara Martelo. A popular street style star who photographers are always on the hunt for, is known for her well-fitted skinny pants and feminine, laid back style. Each season, when those images of the best of the best style are shown for Fashion Week, I see Martelo stuntin’ on these heauxs¬†fashionistas with major finesse. What really does it for me is her love for high waisted bottoms, with simple shirts. If you follow her like me, then it’s a signature look you can’t miss. She does it so well – and here I would like to share with you how to get the Barbara Martelo look. No, no…we didn’t have a one on one conversation and no I am not her stylist, but I do feel like I can take a stab at glorifying one of the top stylish women with my little own research.

Okay, here are a few things:

  • Look for distressed black or gray denim. This has been her go to color of jeans for years. It’s a great basic for your wardrobe and goes with just about anything.
  • Invest in chic black suede pumps with a pointed toe. Ladylike and fly at the same time.
  • Wear your hair in a messy blow out with a side swoop to add to that sexiness. The Madrid ladies always know how to keep it sensually appealing.
  • Don’t be afraid of leather! Whether it’s a skirt, skinny leather pants or a leather top. Go for it. It’s always in and will certainly make you stand out.
  • Throw in some edginess with your ensembles. Try an unconventional cargo style jacket or fringe coat with your outfits.
  • Show off those legs in a mini flouncy skirt or A-line style. She is known for wearing a crisp white tee or black halter top with a high waisted adorable skirt.
  • Overall, have fun with big multi-colored fur coats, jaw-dropping shoes and boots, and bad ass jackets, but make sure those bottoms are high waisted! (just kidding) However, she has definitely proven this look to be a winner.

Check out a few pieces that are very Barbara Martelo-ish…
