Celebrating Black Style: Phyllis Hyman

In honor of Black History Month, I will be doing a series of notable artists, celebrities and musicians from back in the day. I wanted to celebrate their legacy and style they poised which paved the way for today’s trends. Some of you may be familiar with soul singer, Phyllis Hyman, for her hits like “You Know How to Love Me” and “Living all Alone,” songs that got into your soul on the first listen. A beautiful woman gone too soon but her voice and beautiful spirit lives on. Hyman was a little color crazy in the 80’s and 90’s with avant garde hats and sexy silhouettes. She seemed to rock solids a lot, but also seemed to have a love for black. In this post, I wanted to focus on how she liked to play up her décolletage with deep plunge looks like this slip dress above and that bad ass deep V blazer with a cute belt to cinch the waist. Her style was pretty playful and glamorous – and with her fresh tresses and pouty full lips, she is definitely an artist who had style power. Click here for the blazer and here for the dress above.
