5 Small Businesses to Shop From for the Holidays

Small Business Saturday was November 26th but that doesn’t mean you can’t show support to the underdogs who are doing it for their families and communities any other day. Most of us are still shopping for the holidays, so here is a strong opportunity for you to advocate the business owners who are pushing hard to keep things going for their future.

Treason Toting Company – Founders Jason Bass & Aaron Jones

Also known as the coolest guys on the planet who manufactures their canvas and leather travel goods right here in Baltimore. Shop quality pieces for your loved ones with options from a hefty duffel bag to an iPad pouch. Their design aesthetic is timeless, classic, and undoubtedly cool. A unisex brand that is suitable for just about anyone in your family. My favorite is the Charles backpack and the Dopp Kit. Price points currently range from $17.50 to $225. Shop their goods at www.treasontotingco.com or visit the store 1714 Thames St Baltimore, MD.

Keeper’s Vintage and Knits Soy & Metal – Co-op establishment with Founders Erica Bentley and Letta Moore

Two small business owners under one roof equals: smart move. Not only are these two entrepreneurs saving money on overhead costs, they are providing their customers a one stop shop for vintage clothes, handmade knits, and candles. You can shop this space for one of a kind items and unique pleasantries for friends and family. On a cozy street in Mt Vernon (an area in Baltimore), I’m sure you will find an outstanding gift here. 246 W. Read Street

My Cup of Cake – Founder Sharon Tracy

I have been turned on to Sharon’s hot cocoa when it was packaged in my October POPSUGAR Must Have Box. Can we say addicted?? Before having this delicious coca, I can’t really say I was one to even buy it from the store. However I will most certainly purchase again. You’re probably wondering, “Well is it just cocoa?” Nope. There are yummy gifts from edible chocolate candles to dipping fondue and even an edible choc-board for personalized messages. One thing I love about this small business is how she employs people with disabilities to give them a sense of love in the working environment. Now that is awesome. Take a look at her gift sets that usually includes a coffee mug. www.cupofcake.com

Brightside Boutique – Owner Christie Griffiths

Baltimore babes and visitors are flocking to this women’s boutique for cute trendy pieces and small home goods. A spot that celebrates its hometown with statement tees like “Bmore Babes” and “Game Day” for those wild Ravens games and stocked brands such as ASTR and BB Dakota, Griffiths has definitely found her niche in Charm City. You can visit the two locations in Federal Hill (1133 S. Charles St) and Fells Point (732 S. Broadway) or shop online at www.shopbrightside.com.

Mae B – Founder Bianca Lambert

A stationary company for brown girls was much needed, and Bianca Lambert (the creator of Mae B) launched her site to fill that gap of underrepresented faces for cards, calendars and more. The Atlanta Native has already been featured in Essence, FashionBomb Daily, and Real Simple. Her collections are the chicest illustrations of working women, girl bosses, girlfriends, and even wedding designs. You’ll be sure to find a gift for your sister, BFF, co-worker, or family member. Mae B even offers a cool selection of travel accessories. Shop Mae B here.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shopping! xo
